Strategy for Extraordinary Evidence: Research Triangulation

Research triangulation, a robust investigative strategy, holds the key to unraveling the mysteries surrounding Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP). These elusive and unexplained aerial and aquatic phenomena have captured the imagination of researchers, scientists, and the general public alike. To address the complexities and uncertainties associated with UAP research, employing triangulation becomes imperative. This method involves integrating various sources, methods, and investigators to enhance the credibility and validity of findings while mitigating potential biases. In this article, we explore the application of research triangulation in the context of UAP, utilizing methodological triangulation, investigator triangulation, and data triangulation to shed light on these enigmatic occurrences.


Methodological Triangulation:

One of the fundamental aspects of research triangulation involves employing different methods to examine a phenomenon comprehensively. For UAP studies, methodological triangulation can be categorized as qualitative and quantitative.


Qualitative Method: Researchers may employ qualitative methods to gain a deeper understanding of the subjective experiences and perspectives related to UAP sightings. Interviews, focus groups, and content analysis can provide valuable insights into the emotional and psychological aspects of witnesses' encounters.


Quantitative Method: On the other hand, quantitative methods involve the analysis of numerical data to identify patterns and trends associated with UAP sightings. The data collected with all the AREA S4's suggested tools can help researchers quantify the studies of these phenomena.


Investigator Triangulation (Qualitative):

In the pursuit of UAP research, employing investigator triangulation is essential to validate findings and ensure the reliability of eyewitness accounts. Multiple investigators bring diverse perspectives and expertise to the table, reducing the likelihood of individual biases. In the qualitative realm, investigator triangulation involves collaboration among different researchers and including non-researcher witnesses.


  • Researcher 1: A seasoned UFO researcher with expertise in collecting and analyzing witness testimonies.

  • Researcher 2: An astro-photographer specializing in taking photos/videos in low light condition.

  • Researcher 3: A skeptic, who can balance the bias of a UFO believer.

  • Other Witnesses: In addition to professional researchers, including other witnesses such as boat crew members, drivers, and helpers can further corroborate or challenge the reported UAP sightings, adding layers of validation to the investigation.


Data Triangulation (Quantitative):

To ensure the reliability and accuracy of UAP data, employing data triangulation is essential. This involves collecting information through various technological instruments and sensors to cross-verify and validate the observations.


  • Optical Camera: Captures visible light imagery of UAP sightings.

  • FLIR (Forward-Looking Infrared): Records thermal signatures, providing information on the heat emitted by UAP.

  • Night Vision: Enhances visibility in low-light conditions, aiding in the observation of nocturnal UAP activities.

  • Radar: Detects the presence and movement of UAP by bouncing radio waves off these unidentified objects.

  • Spectrum Analyzer: Analyzes the electromagnetic spectrum, helping identify unusual frequencies associated with UAP.

  • Lidar: Utilizes laser light to measure distances, providing precise spatial data on UAP locations.


Theory Triangulation (Results):

For this article, theory triangulation (results) will not be defined, because scientifically a theory without empirical evidence is not a theory, it is still a hypothesis. Since we are still trying to substantiate extraordinary evidence we can't deduct reasonable theories, yet.


In the quest to demystify UAP, research triangulation emerges as a powerful strategy. By integrating various methods, investigators, and data sources, researchers can enhance the robustness and reliability of their findings. Methodological triangulation allows for a comprehensive understanding of UAP encounters, while investigator and data triangulation ensure the validation and cross-verification of collected information.
